Eugene L. Saunders, Sr. was born and raised in Moundsville. He graduated from Moundsville High School and attended Northern Community College. He was employed by Consol Energy for 38 years and retired as Shift Foreman.

He and his wife Ellen have been married for 46 years and have four children, 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He has worked in the community with civic, social and sports organizations for over 40 years and has been the recipient of numerous awards from these organizations. He is a member of Wayman AME church serving as head trustee.

He has been on council over six years representing the 3rd ward, serving as Mayor and Vice Mayor.
